Estimating reliability for evaluating nitrate accumulation in sorghum (<i>Sorghum bicolor</i> L. Moench) inbred A‐lines

نویسندگان

چکیده

Sorghum is an important forage crop in many cropping systems. Nitrate can accumulate the vegetative plant tissue to levels high enough that result fatality when fed ruminant livestock grown under nitrate conditions. If variation among inbred lines be documented for concentration, it may possible reduce accumulation within sorghum hybrids by selecting having lower accumulation. The goal of this study was evaluate a diverse set male-sterile conditions, observe if genotypic exists used produce hybrids. Forty replicates 20 A-lines were greenhouse and received either 272 kg ha−1 or 408 actual nitrogen per through applications ammonium nitrate. Variance components extracted from linear regression models reliability estimated on entry-mean basis. Leaf stem estimates 0.95 0.93, respectively. These indicate genetic variance comprised most phenotypic variance, our measurements consistent. Significant differences also observed between genotypes both leaf tissue. Therefore, sufficient developing male sterile concentrations below potentially lethal toxicity threshold 10,000 μg g−1.

Inheritance of Resistance to Sorghum Shoot Fly, Atherigona soccata in Sorghum, Sorghum bicolor (L.) Moench

Sorghum production is affected by a wide array of biotic constraints, of which sorghum shoot fly, Atherigona soccata is the most important pest, which severely damages the sorghum crop during the seedling stage. Host plant resistance is one of the major components to control sorghum shoot fly, A. soccata. To understand the nature of gene action for inheritance of shoot fly resistance, we evalua...

Genotypic variation in sorghum [Sorghum bicolor (L.) Moench] exotic germplasm collections for drought and disease tolerance

Sorghum [Sorghum bicolor (L.) Moench] grain yield is severely affected by abiotic and biotic stresses during post-flowering stages, which has been aggravated by climate change. New parental lines having genes for various biotic and abiotic stress tolerances have the potential to mitigate this negative effect. Field studies were conducted under irrigated and dryland conditions with 128 exotic ge...

B-Glucans in the Caryopsis of Sorghum Bicolor (L.) Moench

Fluorescence microscopy was used to determine the l ocation of Bglucans in sorghum. Sections from three genetically different sorghum cultivars were st ained with Calcofluor or Congo Red , fluorochromes which have been reported to react with 13-glucans. Autofluorescence, indicative of ferulic acid in other cereals, was observed in untreated sections. When stained sections were treated with endo...

Correlation studies for shootfly resistance traits in sorghum (Sorghum bicolor (L.) Moench)

A field experiment was conducted to study the relation of different plant characters and shoot fly resistance in sorghum. Leaf glossiness showed high positive correlation with shootfly oviposition and dead hearts. The oviposition percentage on 14 and 21 days after seedling emergence exhibited significant positive correlation with dead hearts. Leaf trichome density on adaxial and abaxial leaf su...
